HowTo: Hide user accounts from Windows 7 (or XP) welcome screen.

This is useful when you created additional user accounts to share folders on a home network.  The users existing on the client computers need to exist on the server computer but you don’t want them to be able to login locally.

Go to the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList

In XP, the key exists, in Vista or 7 you must create keys “SpecialAccounts” and “UserList”.

Next you need to create a new DWORD value under that key.
Name: usernameToHide
Value: 0  (0 to hide, 1 to show)

CAUTION! If you disable all administrator accounts, UAC won’t work anymore.
