{"id":88,"date":"2010-07-08T10:14:19","date_gmt":"2010-07-08T14:14:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ryanbelanger.com\/?p=88"},"modified":"2010-07-08T10:14:19","modified_gmt":"2010-07-08T14:14:19","slug":"howto-hide-user-accounts-in-windows-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ryanbelanger.com\/?p=88","title":{"rendered":"HowTo: Hide user accounts in Windows 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HowTo: Hide user accounts from Windows 7 (or XP) welcome screen.<\/p>\n<p>This is useful\u00a0when you created additional user accounts to share folders on a home network.\u00a0 The users existing on the client computers need to exist on the server computer but you don&#8217;t want them to be able to login locally.<\/p>\n<p>Go to the following registry key:<\/p>\n<p><code><strong>HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Microsoft\\WindowsNT\\CurrentVersion\\Winlogon\\SpecialAccounts\\UserList<\/strong><\/code><\/p>\n<p>In XP, the key exists, in Vista or 7 you must create keys &#8220;SpecialAccounts&#8221; and &#8220;UserList&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Next you need to create a new DWORD value under that key.<br \/>\nName: <em>usernameToHide<br \/>\nValue: 0\u00a0 (0 to hide,\u00a01 to show)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>CAUTION!
